On September 22nd, almost two hundred sponsors and friends of the Charlottesville Scholarship Program gathered at the Paramount Theater for an evening of food, music and celebration to honor those students who have received Promise Scholarships. Andrea Copeland of Positive Channels once again served as our mistress of ceremonies.
The evening began with fabulous foods by the bite donated by our area’s most popular restaurants while being treated to the wonderful musical talents of a Charlottesville High School Orchestra quartet.
Michael A. Mallory, executive director of the Ron Brown Scholar Program was the keynote speaker for the evening. Mr. Mallory leads this highly successful program that has made college possible for talented African-American students. As a coach, teacher and recruitment officer for the University, he has spent his life helping students take control of their destinies. According to Mr. Mallory, “As the cost of education rises both absolutely and in relation to its professional payoff, scholarships remain a sound community investment, since they lead directly to employment and broader horizons for the next generation”.
The evening was topped off with desserts, coffee and dancing to 180–Central Virginia’s Favorite Band!
