New Promise Scholars

Nia Bright is a rising senior at East Carolina University. She graduated from CHS in 2015, attended PVCC, and then transferred to ECU, where she maintains a 3.04 GPA. Her major is Marketing, and her goal is to someday be a Director of Public Housing.

Ngawang Chostso is a CHS senior who plans to attend Old Dominion University. Chosto knows that doctors’ heavy caseloads often prevent them from spending enough time with their patients. Her goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner who can devote more time to each patient she sees.

Sahara Clemons is a CHS senior who plans to attend the Rhode Island School of Design. A gifted artist, Sahara has had her work shown at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, and has enjoyed opportunities to study abroad and attend a Summer Residential Governor’s School.

Nian Huang is a CHS senior who plans to begin his education at PVCC and then transfer to a 4-year university. His goal is to start his own world-class business.

Kaniyah Key is a CHS senior who plans to attend Old Dominion University. She is a member of National Honor Society and is active in basketball, lacrosse, Young Life, Project Discovery, and Black Student Union.

Esmeralda Lopez is a CHS senior who plans to attend PVCC and then transfer to George Mason University. Her goal is to become a social worker.

Yahya Mohamed graduated from CHS in 2017. He has taken classes at PVCC and the University of Lynchburg, and will transfer to James Madison University in the fall of 2019 where he plans to major in speech pathology.

Keshawna Nelson is a CHS senior who plans to attend Virginia Commonwealth University. She stays busy with theater, Varsity Cheerleading, German Honor Society, Black Student Union, and Key Club. She plans to major in psychology.

Eddy Nkere is a CHS senior who moved to Charlottesville after living as a refugee in Burundi for 15 years. He plans to attend Christopher Newport University.

Ashton Ryan is a CHS senior who founded Ashton’s Birthday Wish, a local organization which has collected and distributed over 13,000 coats to Virginia families in need. Ashton will attend PVCC to begin his journey to a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science.
